On May 16th, the 30th annual Run For The Wall will begin, with thousands of veterans, families and friends traveling 2,600 miles across the country to the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington DC.
This year, for the first time, supporters will be able to track the riders on every mile of their journey, viewing the route on a real-time online map powered by the Scout GPSTM tracking and anti-theft system (www.findmyscout.com) .
Run For The Wall honors the memory and sacrifice of those Killed in Action (KIA) from all wars, and is held to support the personnel and families of the U.S. military all over the world, as well as to call for an accounting of all Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action (POW/MIA).
Three routes of Run For The Wall (RFTW) all begin in Ontario, CA on the morning of May 16th, then separate into three different routes across the country before rejoining in Arlington, VA on May 25th in preparation for the end of the mission, where they will lay wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown and The Wall on the 26th. Along the routes, RFTW riders visit VA Medical Centers, Veterans’ Memorials, Veterans’ Outreach Facilities, VFW Posts, American Legion Posts, and Community Centers, as well as many middle schools and high schools.
To track the three routes of RFTW, visit www.RFTW.US/map. The map will go "live" on the morning of May 16th as the riders depart Ontario, CA.
RFTW gives participants the opportunity to reflect and heal on their journey to the Vietnam Memorial, in the hope they can return home to a new beginning. The Run is also intended to educate future generations about the importance of accountability in wartime actions, emphasizing that no one should be left behind. The personnel and families engaged in the current conflict are also invited and encouraged to participate and to share the Vietnam Memorial Wall until they get their own Wall.
Supporters can use the Scout GPSTM online map at www.RFTW.US/map to follow the run, and if it passes through their area they are encouraged to come out to support them. RFTW treats all citizens with dignity and respect. This is an opportunity for all veterans to get their own welcome home and start their healing process.
Detailed itineraries for each of the three routes are available at https://rftw.us/central-route-hub, https://rftw.us/midway-route-hub, and https://rftw.us/southern-route-hub. To support the Run, please consider making a donation at www.RFTW.US.
