SEFA approves two SGS furniture testing laboratories in Anji and Shanghai, China.
( | Press Release | 2018-03-07 13:24:55 )
Opening a new chapter in their relationship and for the laboratory furniture testing sector, SGS and the Scientific Equipment & Furniture Association (SEFA) have signed a partnership agreement

SGS is also an established Deputy Agency of SEFA, able to accept applications for membership of the Association. The company has China’s only SEFA approved testing labs – in Shanghai and Anji – conducts product testing and prepares reports for submission by clients.

The two SGS laboratories that are approved by the SEFA conduct testing against all SEFA Standards. Lab furniture must meet different needs during different experiments. The SEFA standards aim to ensure that furniture fitted to labs (commercial and educational) fulfills its purpose and enables experiments to be conducted safely, and they include:

• SEFA 1-2010 – Fume Hoods
• SEFA 2-2010 – Installation
• SEFA 3-2010 – Work Surfaces
• SEFA 7-2010 – Fixtures
• SEFA 8-M-2016 – Laboratory Grade Metal Casework
• SEFA 8-PH-2016 – Laboratory Grade Phenolic Casework
• SEFA 8-PL-2016 – Laboratory Grade Plastic Laminate Casework
• SEFA 8-P-2014 – Laboratory Grade Polypropylene Casework
• SEFA 8-W-2016 – Laboratory Grade Wood Casework
• SEFA 9-2010 – Ductless Enclosures
• SEFA 10-2013 – Adaptable Casework Systems
• SEFA 11-2010 – Liquid Chemical Storage

In addition, SGS can conduct testing against ASHRAE 110 for fume hood testing, another important standard for laboratory products.

Lab furniture is likely to be exposed to chemicals, water, electricity, gases and all kinds of tools and equipment, unlike domestic furniture. In addition, it needs to be ergonomic and comfortable, functional and durable as well as corrosion resistant. All this means that lab furniture needs to be meet strict safety and quality requirements for its structure and materials.

SGS can conduct quality and safety testing of laboratory furniture to ensure products meet best-practice and industry standards. Leveraging the company’s global network of furniture experts, SGS clients and their end-customers can be assured that products are compliant and fit for purpose.
